LGBT Initiative

    August 7, 2012

Arent Fox LLP proudly welcomes and supports its lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) attorneys, staff, and clients. The firm does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. More importantly, Arent Fox has created and maintains an inclusive environment in which its LGBT professionals are valued, fostered and supported. As outside general counsel to organizations like the Whitman-Walker Clinic, one of the nation’s leading providers of services to those living with HIV/AIDS; and the National Holocaust Museum, Arent Fox has long recognized that diversity and community service are an integral part of any successful legal practice.

As part of its larger diversity efforts, Arent Fox has established a firmwide committee charged with ensuring that an inclusive environment exists for its LGBT members. The LGBT Initiative meets regularly to review firm policy, plan professional development events, organize networking and social activities, and discuss pro bono and other charitable-giving opportunities. LGBT Initiative activities include a happy hour with the firm’s summer associates, an annual networking event with LGBT in-house attorneys of Arent Fox clients and an annual community service project.

We also partner with numerous LGBT community organizations at both the local and national levels. Arent Fox regularly sponsors events of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, The Whitman-Walker Clinic, Empire State Pride Agenda, National LGBT Bar Association, The George Washington University Diversity Conference, Equality Virginia and Human Rights Campaign.

As a result of our track record in promoting and supporting diversity, Arent Fox has been recognized as one of the best law firms at which to work for LGBT professionals. Arent Fox received a 100% perfect rating by the Human Rights Campaign in its 2010 and 2009 Corporate Equality Index surveys (click here for the press release). In 2008 Vault ranked Arent Fox No. 12 for diversity for LGBT employees, and in 2007 Vault ranked the firm No. 11 for best in overall diversity.
