Arent Fox is Advancing Equality in Your World

Arent Fox LLP proudly welcomes and supports its lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) attorneys, staff, and clients. The firm is proud of its position as an industry leader in maintaining an inclusive environment that values, fosters, and supports its LGBT professionals.

As part of its larger diversity efforts, Arent Fox has established a firmwide committee charged with ensuring that an inclusive environment exists for its LGBT members. The LGBT Initiative meets regularly to review firm policy, plan professional development events, organize networking and social activities, and discuss pro bono and other charitable-giving opportunities.

By helping to connect LGBT and allied lawyers, paralegals, and alumni at Arent Fox, OutFox works to foster a stronger professional and social network within the firm. The group meets periodically for social and networking events, serves as a sounding board for issues of interest or concern to LGBT employees, works to integrate new employees, and looks for opportunities to increase the firm’s visibility within the LGBT legal community.

    Inclusive Counsel

Partner Hunter Carter, along with the Vance Center for International Justice, is working to obtain a marriage equality ruling from the Inter-American Court and numerous other Latin Americna courts on Human Rights. In addition, he co-authored a report unanimously adopted by the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates that the laid legal framework for granting marriage equality in New York.

Partner Pam Fulmer represented as outside pro bono counsel, the City and County of San Francisco in the landmark marriage equality cases. She was on the legal team that litigated the early cases when opponents of gay marriage went to the courts to stop San Francisco from issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples. Her early work paid off when the matter ultimately triumphed before the California Supreme Court.

    Active Engagement

We also partner with numerous LGBT community organizations at both the local and national levels. We regularly sponsor and participate in events for Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, The Whitman-Walker Clinic, Empire State Pride Agenda, National LGBT Bar Association, The George Washington University Diversity Conference, National Center for Lesbian Rights, Human Rights Campaign, StartOUT, and GLINTA.
