Arent Fox Partner Linda Baumann Serves as Editor-in-Chief of Best Selling Health Care Fraud Treatise

Arent Fox LLP is proud to announce that, for the thirteenth year in a row, Health Care partner Linda A. Baumann served as editor-in-chief of a comprehensive desk reference focused on fraud and abuse for lawyers in the health care industry.

Published by the American Bar Association, in cooperation with Bloomberg BNA, Health Care Fraud and Abuse: Practical Perspectives includes contributions from leading health care attorneys (in addition to Ms. Baumann) who provide valuable insight into a dynamic and critically important area of the law that is affecting the health care industry.

The book is in its third edition, with supplements published each year, and is the best selling health law treatise among the numerous books published by Bloomberg BNA. For a link to the book, click here.

“I am very gratified that this volume has remained an important resource for well over a decade, for both the legal community and for companies focused on reducing their risks related to fraud and abuse,” said Ms. Baumann. “In light of the steadily increasing number of government enforcement actions and the very large dollar amounts at issue — with settlements sometimes exceeding a billion dollars — this is a critically important issue for companies doing business in the health care industry.”

Practical Perspectives offers essential information on the current health care fraud and abuse laws, regulations, case law, and government guidance, as well as insights on the issues most likely to trigger government scrutiny and lead to liability. In addition, readers will find guidance on how to defend clients against government investigations and False Claims Act (FCA) cases, avoid regulatory pitfalls, structure acceptable business arrangements, and implement effective corporate compliance programs. While originally created to provide advanced guidance to seasoned health law practitioners as well as lawyers who do not regularly practice in this area, health care executives also are using the book to help them understand this extremely complex area of the law.

Ms. Baumann is the Leader of the national Health Care group's Compliance/Investigations team and is the Lead health care partner in the firm's Washington, DC office. She has extensive experience on a wide range of health care regulatory, litigation, and transactional matters, particularly those involving fraud and abuse, compliance, and reimbursement. Recognized nationally for her experience in the anti-kickback statute, the Stark Law, and the False Claims Act, Ms. Baumann has helped defend clients in FCA cases, respond to government subpoenas, conduct internal investigations, return overpayments, and make formal self-disclosures when necessary.
