Identity Theft Tops FTC’s List of Complaints for 2011

The FTC released a list of the top ten consumer complaints received by the bureau in the year 2011. The top ten include the following:
- Identity Theft
- Debt Collection Complaints
- Prizes, Sweepstakes, and Lotteries
- Shop-at-Home and Catalog Sales
- Banks and Lenders
- Internet Services
- Auto Related Complaints
- Imposter Scams
- Telephone and Mobile Services
- Advance-Fee Loans and Credit Protection/Repair
Of the more than 1.8 million complaints received by the FTC during 2011, the largest percentage represented by the categories above was 15%. The other categories represented 10% or less.
