Third Episode of After Hours Video Podcast by Arent Fox Los Angeles Partner Harry Johnson
To kick off the New Year, Arent Fox partner Harry Johnson has issued the third of a series of Legal Alert video podcasts titled After Hours, which will examine general employment law and labor-management issues, especially in California, and their significance for in-house counsel and human resources professionals.
In the third episode - “The Economics of California Wage-Hour Class Actions,” Harry discusses the market incentives driving wage-hour class and collective litigation, and why, consequently, it’s unlikely to abate anytime soon. Harry covers common and often fatal management disincentives to look into general wage-hour compliance “health,” contrasting them with the specific monetary incentives propelling typical meal and rest break lawsuits, as an example. In conclusion, Harry notes some areas where employers should be especially vigilant in auditing their own compliance.
