"When Good Friends Turn Bad" - World Trademark Review (February-March 2010 Issue)
Arent Fox partners Michael A. Grow and James R. Davis, along with associate Alec P. Rosenberg, have been published in the latest edition of World Trademark Review, a leading intellectual property publication. Their article, “When Good Friends Turn Bad,” takes a look at the increasingly important issue of registrar cybersquatting and its impact on brand owners.
“Direct or contributory cybersquatting by domain name registrars has yet to receive much attention,” the Arent Fox attorneys write. “However, if this problem is not addressed, brand owners could find the goodwill associated with their marks hijacked by the very organizations they rely on to oversee domain space.”
Michael, James and Alec write that although this “troubling form of domain name misconduct has yet to receive significant attention in the courts and media, recent cases indicate it is a serious legal issue.”
