Fifth Annual Washington, DC GeoPlunge Tournament
WASHINGTON, DC — NOVEMBER 18, 2009 — Arent Fox LLP, the District of Columbia Public Schools, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, and the Washington Lawyers' Committee are pleased to present the Fifth Annual Washington, DC GeoPlunge Tournament. More than 150 students for over 30 DC public schools teams of fifth and sixth graders will compete in the GeoPlunge Tournament on Friday, November 20, 2009, from 9:30 am to 2:15 pm, at the newly-renovated National Museum of American History.
DCPS Chancellor Michelle Rhee will be on hand to present the GeoPlunge Championship trophy to the winners.
GeoPlunge is a multi-award winning geography game, created by local attorney, Alan Fishel, a partner at Arent Fox LLP in Washington, DC, to teach kids geography in a fun, fast-paced way.
This year will mark the first time the DC GeoPlunge Tournament is held at the National Museum of American History, providing an awe-inspiring and educational background for this fun-filled scholastic event.
Much like the NCAA basketball tournament, the DC GeoPlunge Tournament pits school teams against one another as students compete to advance to the Sweet Sixteen, then the Elite Eight, followed by the Final Four, and ultimately take home the Championship Trophy. Unlike the basketball tournament, however, this action-packed competition takes only a day to complete.
Last year, J.O. Wilson repeated as GeoPlunge Tournament Champions, defeating Eaton Elementary in a nail-biting championship round. J.O. Wilson is back in the tournament this looking for an unprecedented “three-peat!”
