The Government Focus on Immigration Enforcement: The Impact on Employers

Department of Homeland Security Officials to Discuss Immigration Enforcement

Arent Fox partner Baruch Weiss will be conducting a telephone seminar on November 15, 2007 on the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) increased criminal and civil enforcement efforts aimed at employers who knowingly employ illegal immigrants.

Between January and July 2007, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the largest investigative branch of the Department of Homeland Security, arrested 742 individual employers and employees on criminal charges. This is approximately double the rate of arrests for 2006 and 50 times the rate of arrests in 2002.

Joining Baruch to discuss and answer questions about the federal government’s stepped up enforcement efforts will be two top attorneys from the Department of Homeland Security:

    Michael Neifach, Esq.
    Principal Legal Advisor
    Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

    Lynden Melmed, Esq.
    Chief Counsel
    Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS)

The telephone conference is a complimentary event open to the public. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Brooke Lombardi at lombardi.brooke@arentfox.com for the dial-in number and participant passcode.
