Their article, “Boon for Food Exports to Iran and Sudan,” discusses the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control’s recent announcement replacing the one-year specific license requirement for exports of most food to Iran and Sudan with general licenses that now authorize such exports without prior approval from OFAC.
“By eliminating the one-year specific license requirement on exports of food to Iran and Sudan, and authorizing such exports under general license, the US. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control has lifted a significant burden on exporters,” writes Law 360 in its introduction to the article. “This change comes somewhat as a surprise to many in the trade, say attorneys with Arent Fox LLP.”
