Phil English Comments on Trump’s Tax Plan in CQ Roll Call

Senior Government Relations Advisor Philip English was quoted in a CQ Roll Call article on the proposed tax policies by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

CQ Roll Call discusses Trump’s tax plan at length, which includes aggressive tax cuts and claims to be revenue-neutral, and notes that Pence’s solid tax record in Indiana may be just what the campaign needs in order to sell the plan to voters.

Pence would bring his reputation as “an aggressive tax cutter to the point of being controversial” to Washington, but his experience as an effective deal-maker may help resolve intraparty disputes, according to Phil. “Pence has demonstrated he clearly understands how to take half a loaf.”

The article points out the criticism from both sides of the political aisle on the estimated cost of Trump’s tax policy, adding that the campaign is retooling the plan after some Congressional Republicans denounced its price tag. “What Trump makes clear is that when he makes a tax proposal, it’s only a starting point,” said Phil.
