Arent Fox’s Linda Baumann Featured in Bloomberg BNA Books Monitor

    April 10, 2012

Arent Fox’s Linda Baumann, a partner in the firm’s Health Care practice, is profiled in the Spring 2012 edition of Bloomberg BNA Books Monitor.

In the “Author Profile,” Linda, who serves as editor-in-chief of Health Care Fraud and Abuse: Practical Perspectives, Second Edition, discusses her work representing health care providers and suppliers, drug and device manufacturers, and others doing business in the health care industry on matters related to health care fraud and abuse, e.g., the Stark Law and anti-kickback statute, corporate compliance, internal investigations, False Claims Acts cases, and due diligence in connection with prospective acquisitions.

“I really enjoy helping clients conduct internal investigations to uncover the facts that can help reduce their risk of exposure. In addition, there are many “gray areas” in this part of the law, and much of the guidance is not contained in traditional sources, such as case law,” said Linda to Bloomberg BNA. “As a result, it’s especially rewarding to be able to use the legal knowledge I’ve acquired after decades of working in this area to help defend my client. While it all depends on the underlying facts, it’s a great feeling when I’m able to help the client prove that they did nothing wrong and no sanction of any kind is imposed.”

Linda also talks about her service as Chair of the American Bar Association’s Breast Cancer Task Force. “TheTask Force trains lawyers across the country so they can help counsel breast cancer patients on the legal issues they face as a result of their condition or treatment,” said Linda. “Many Task Force members are cancer survivors and the pro bono work they do to help others is invaluable.
