Arent Fox Bolsters International Practice with Addition of John Gurley and Kay Georgi

    WASHINGTON—SEPTEMBER 12, 2005— Arent Fox PLLC, a full-service law firm that represents U.S. and foreign entities in all aspects of cross-border business and commerce, is pleased to announce that John Gurley and Kay Georgi will join the firm’s international practice as partners, effective immediately.

    "John and Kay bring strong insight and knowledge of trade litigation, customs, export control and related matters with them to Arent Fox," said Marc Fleischaker, Arent Fox’s Chairman. "Their knowledge of Asian issues is complimentary to our existing practice, especially as it relates to legal and business issues involving Latin America."

    Gurley is a professional on trade relief proceedings such as antidumping and countervailing duty matters. He represents clients in matters before the International Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Commerce. Gurley also has significant experience in handling matters before the Office of the U. S. Trade Representative and Section 337 cases, which generally involve allegations of infringement of intellectual property rights before the U.S. International Trade Commission.

    Gurley advises companies and individuals in matters relating to U.S. embargoes and sanctions handled by the Office of Foreign Assets Control. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He serves as an adjunct professor in International Trade at Georgetown University Law Center. He is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law.

    Georgi has extensive experience in advising on trade and export control matters. She represents clients in trade remedy cases before the International Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. courts, and in World Trade Organization matters, including Section 301 proceedings (the principal statutory authority under which the U.S. may impose trade sanctions) before the U.S. Trade Representative. She advises international governments about the implementation and interpretation of antidumping and countervailing duty laws; and counsels clients about international and bilateral agreements. Georgi graduated summa cum laude from Cornell Law School with a degree in international legal affairs and is fluent in Italian.
