Mr. Hunter Served as a Top Aide to US Sen. John Kerry on Transportation, Aviation, and Homeland Security Issues

Former Director of Government Affairs for the General Aviation Manufacturers Association

WASHINGTON, DC – MARCH 29, 2011 – Arent Fox LLP announced today that James (Jamie) A. Hunter has joined the firm as a Government Relations Director in the firm’s Washington, DC office.

Mr. Hunter joins Arent Fox’s fast-growing Government Relations Group, where he will advise clients on transportation, economic development, telecommunications, energy, and environmental issues.

Mr. Hunter joins Arent Fox from the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), where he served as the Director of Government Affairs, advocating the industry’s public policy positions in both the US House of Representatives and the Senate on issues such as Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization, homeland security, product liability, and the environment. He also handled tax issues, which included securing critical “bonus depreciation” language to help increase general aviation aircraft sales.

Prior to his position at GAMA, Jamie served for nearly six years in Senator John Kerry’s office, spending substantial time as a legislative assistant responsible for transportation, homeland security, and labor policy. He advised the Senator regarding issues before the Senate Commerce Committee and counseled him on budget, economic development, and appropriations issues within his legislative portfolio. He also assisted Senator Kerry on telecommunications issues, including broadband deployment and net neutrality, and helped Massachusetts’ technology businesses navigate the federal bureaucracy. In addition to his legislative duties, Jamie served as an advisor to Senator Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign and as a personal aide in his Senate office.

“Jamie is a talented and knowledgeable public servant who brings a substantial amount of experience to complex issues in the aviation and telecommunications industries,” said former US Senator Byron Dorgan, who is a Senior Policy Advisor at Arent Fox, where he serves as co-chair of the firm’s Government Relations practice, along with former US Congressman Phil English. “While serving on the Senate Commerce Committee, I was deeply involved in aviation, transportation, and communications issues, and Jamie’s hard work, skill, and dedication was well known to both members and staff. Our clients will benefit from Jamie’s experience and abilities.”

The arrival of Mr. Hunter is the latest step in the growth of Arent Fox’s Government Relations practice, building upon the arrivals in January 2011, of former US Senators Byron Dorgan of North Dakota and Robert Bennett of Utah.
