Arent Fox Names International Trade Attorney Matthew J. Clark as New Managing Partner

    January 10, 2011

Firm Has Offices in Washington, DC, New York, and Los Angeles

Washington, DC – January 10, 2011 – Arent Fox LLP today announced that the firm’s Executive Committee has unanimously approved the appointment of Matthew Clark as managing partner of the firm. He succeeds William Charyk, who stepped down after 12 years in that post. Mr. Clark’s appointment was effective January 1.

“It is a great privilege to be selected as managing partner of Arent Fox, and I thank the Executive Committee for their vote of confidence,” said Mr. Clark. “Bill Charyk has done an incredible job as managing partner over the past 12 years. During Bill’s tenure as managing partner, the firm expanded to include the Los Angeles office, in addition to continually growing the New York office, both of which are thriving and have contributed enormously to our expanded national presence. Bill embodies the very best of Arent Fox, working countless hours on behalf of the firm, often at great personal sacrifice. We owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for the leadership he has provided over the past 12 years.”

Mr. Clark is one of the most highly regarded international trade attorneys in the United States. Before assuming his new role as managing partner, Mr. Clark has represented major international corporations, governments, and associations in matter arising under the international trade and custom law of the United States, the WTO Agreements (and before it the GATT), and the NAFTA. In these proceedings Matt regularly appears before the US Department of Commerce, the US International Trade Commission, and the Office of the US Trade Representative.

In addition to his extensive trade litigation experience, Mr. Clark also advises clients on other import and export related issues. He represents clients in investigations, penalty proceedings, audits, and compliance assessments by the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (formerly the United States Customs Service). He also provides advice and counseling in connection with classification, valuation, and country of origin issues.

Mr. Clark is a graduate of Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law and earned his BA from Villanova University. Mr. Charyk will remain practicing law full time at Arent Fox and continues to sit on the firm’s Executive Committee. His work in the partnership tax area has involved serving as tax counsel to a wide variety of syndicated and closely held limited partnerships, particularly entities with tax-exempt investors. His practice includes individual representation of a number of public company executives, as well as consultation for local legal and medical professional firms.
