Arent Fox Partner Linda Baumann Takes Office as Chair of American Bar Association’s Health Law Section
WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 18 , 2010 — Arent Fox LLP's Linda Baumann, a partner in the national health care practice at Arent Fox LLP, has assumed office as Chair of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section, an extremely active and influential ABA section with more than 8,500 members.
Linda, who practices in Arent Fox’s Washington, DC office, had been serving as Chair- Elect of the Health Law Section over the past year prior to being handed the official chair’s gavel by outgoing ABA President Carolyn Lamm during the ABA’s 2010 Annual Meeting held last week in San Francisco.
As Chair of the Health Law Section, Linda will develop and guide the Section’s activities internally, with other ABA entities, and with the government and other outside organizations. This year will be particularly critical for the Health Law Section in light of the recent passage of the health care reform legislation and its ongoing implementation.
Linda has served on the ABA Health Law Section’s Governing Council since 2003, first as a Council member and then as Section Secretary, Vice Chair and Chair-Elect. She has also been a liaison to the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession for several years, and has chaired the Breast Cancer Task Force which was awarded the ABA Meritorious Service Award. (The Task Force is a pro bono project of the Health Law Section and trains lawyers to counsel breast cancer patients on the legal issues they face as a result of their condition and treatment.) In addition, Linda has served as Co-Chair of the Section's prestigious Washington Healthcare Summit from 2003-2006, Vice Chair of the CLE Programs Committee, Vice Chair of Publications, and as an editorial board member of The Health Lawyer from 1999-2002.
Linda is the editor-in-chief of Health Care Fraud and Abuse: Practical Perspectives, Second Edition – an 867-page treatise originally released in 2002 with a second edition published in 2007, that is updated each year. This book which is used nationwide offers seasoned practitioners, as well as those new to health care law, assistance in structuring business arrangements, satisfying regulatory requirements, defending clients in government investigations and prosecutions, implementing effective corporate compliance programs, and more.
Linda also is a three-time recipient of the Nightingale’s Healthcare News Outstanding Healthcare Fraud & Compliance Lawyers award, and is on the Advisory Board of various health law publications, including BNA’s Health Care Fraud Report. She has been named a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and is listed in several Who’s Who publications. She has published numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on national teleconferences and at meetings across the country, including the ABA Annual Meeting.
