WASHINGTON, DC – MARCH 22, 2011 – Arent Fox LLP announced today that partner Lisa A. Estrada will head the firm’s Health Care Practice.

Ms. Estrada’s health law practice focuses on representing institutional health care providers and suppliers in government enforcement actions, investigations and litigation under the False Claims Act. She represents clients in investigations initiated by the US Department of Justice, US Attorneys’ offices, state attorneys general and state Medicaid Fraud Control Units. Ms. Estrada also regularly counsels health care clients regarding day-to-day compliance issues, including relationships with referral sources, voluntary disclosures and billing and coding issues.

Nightingale's Healthcare News named Ms. Estrada one of the “Outstanding Healthcare Fraud & Compliance Lawyers of 2010.” She is one of only 10 lawyers nationwide to be recognized with this honor. In a special edition of Nightingale's, the publication reported that Ms. Estrada had devised an “innovative response in a newly exposed area of fraud defense, requiring extensive education of the US Attorney's office in the factual realities of end-of-life-care.”

Ms. Estrada serves as a Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section Interest Group on Litigation and Risk Management and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Street Sense, a non-profit street newspaper in Washington, DC.

Ms. Estrada, who started her legal career at Arent Fox in 1999, succeeds Arent Fox partner Lowell C. Brown as head of the Health Care Practice. “Lowell was a strong leader and really moved the practice group forward. I have big shoes to fill as his successor.” Mr. Brown continues to serve a leadership role at Arent Fox as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
