Arent Fox’s Larri Short and Joanne Hawana were published in the April 11, 2012 edition of Law360.

In their article titled “New VA Restrictions On Drug Co. Detailing Activities,” Larri and Joanne discuss a final rule recently issued by the US Department of Veterans Affairs regarding drug and drug-related supply promotion by pharmaceutical company representatives at VA medical facilities.

“The regulation addresses the types of drug and drug-related supplies that may be promoted at VA medical facilities, permissible educational programs presented by pharmaceutical company representatives, the conduct of such representatives while on-site at VA facilities, and the provision of gifts, drugs or other promotional items to VA employees,” write Larri and Joanne. “Pharmaceutical companies that currently send (or plan to send) sales representatives to VA facilities should review the new rules and ensure that all representatives are appropriately trained on how to comply with the rules. The specific areas addressed by the VA in these rules are not completely unfamiliar to the affected industry, however — there have been myriad efforts coming from many different directions to limit the interactions between health care providers and industry representatives.”
