Nancy Heermans Joins Arent Fox Litigation Group
WASHINGTON — August 16, 2006 — Arent Fox is pleased to announce that Nancy S. Heermans has joined the firm’s Litigation Group as a member in the Washington, DC, office. Her expertise encompasses titles I and IV of ERISA, litigation and bankruptcy.
Before rejoining Arent Fox, Heermans was the associate chief counsel for litigation at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), the federal corporation that insures the pensions of American workers and retirees. As associate chief, she was primarily responsible for the agency’s complex litigation in all federal courts. Her work included representing the agency in large bankruptcies such as United Airlines, Enron, US Airways and Raytech, as well as in other litigation involving issues such as pension fraud (PBGC v. White Consolidated Industries) and alleged breaches of fiduciary duties (Coleman v. PBGC). Heermans also has handled a large number of appellate cases in federal appeals courts.
Heermans received her JD, with high honors, from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a BA, with high honors, from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
