Client Work Michael has extensive experience representing numerous individuals and entities, such as Fortune 500 companies, corporate executives, physicians, investment bankers, and other professionals before various federal and state agencies, including the United States Attorney's Offices for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the United States Department of Justice and the New York State's Attorney General’s, Inspector General‘s, and Public Integrity Offices. In addition, Michael has represented major corporations, institutions, and individuals in a number of high-profile prosecutions alleging wire and mail fraud, health care fraud and securities fraud. Michael also successfully defended some of the nation’s best-known companies in employment law proceedings involving allegations relating to race, age, gender, origin, and disability discrimination. Representations handled by Michael include, among others: US subsidiary of a Canadian company in an investigation by the United States Department of Justice involving alleged Foreign Corrupt Practice Act violations; this matter was resolved successfully without any government action against the company Subcontractor in a wrongful termination matter against a prominent hospital in New York City; Michael negotiated a favorable, high six-figure settlement with the hospital Individual in an investigation in the Southern District US Attorney’s Office involving the CEO of a major New York hospital; Michael obtained immunity for this client Individual in the Adelphia prosecution by the Southern District US Attorney’s Office; Michael obtained immunity for his client Placement agent in the state pension fund prosecution by the New York Attorney General’s Office in which numerous individuals pleaded guilty to felonies; Michael’s client was the sole defendant to plead guilty to a misdemeanor An Advisor in the New York Governor’s office during an investigation by the New York State Inspector General’s office for alleged improper influence with regard to the Cipriani franchise liquor license, which was reinstated despite a $10 million fine; Michael’s client was absolved of any wrongdoing Previous Work Prior to joining Arent Fox, Michael was a partner at a prominent law firm in New York. He previously served as staff counsel at the State of New York Commission on Government Integrity. Michael was also an assistant district attorney for Kings County, where he prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases and conducted felony jury trials to verdict. Professional Activities Michael serves as a referee for the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct. He is also a member of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York State Bar Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
