Practice Areas

Doug Bush’s multidisciplinary and international Intellectual Property practice embraces trademark, copyright and unfair competition law. Doug has extensive experience with Internet and e-commerce related issues as well as considerable experience drafting complex agreements pertaining to intellectual property rights. Over the past several years, he has developed large-scale programs for policing and tracking infringements on the Internet and dealing with them in a cost effective manner.

Client Work

Doug has been counseling clients since 1986. His practice includes selecting, registering, protecting and licensing marks around the world, and in drafting international agreements concerning intellectual property rights. Doug routinely deals with attorneys throughout the world and assists clients in registering and protecting their marks in virtually every country.

Doug has been involved in numerous proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and various state and federal courts. He is routinely involved in negotiating resolutions in such disputed matters, and has drafted a variety of agreements dealing with trademark and copyright interests. He has also been involved with filing and resolving numerous law suits dealing with Internet related infringements.

Previous Work

After graduating magna cum laude from law school in 1985, Doug served as a court law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Professional Activities

Doug serves on the International Board of Directors of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. He also holds membership in the International Trademark Association.

Publications, Presentations and Recognitions

Doug has monitored developments pertaining to domain name governance and has made client and industry group presentations concerning trademarks in cyberspace as well as on other topics pertaining to trademarks and unfair competition. He has chaired conferences in both the United States and Mexico on various trademark topics.

Life Beyond the Law

Doug is married and has three children. He learned some Spanish while serving as a volunteer for his church in Argentina for two years before attending college. He continues to actively serve in volunteer positions with his church, and can often be found taking youth groups on outdoors adventures. This allows him some outlet for his love of nature. He also serves on the International Board of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society—an organization that strives through public service and professional excellence to promote fairness and virtue founded upon the rule of law. He has been actively involved in helping law students establish chapters of this society at various schools.
