Government Relations

Who is most knowledgeable about the inner workings of Capitol Hill? Former members and their staff. We have a number of them.

The Arent Fox Government Relations Practice is one of the nation’s most experienced, effective, and respected lobbying organizations. In fact, Arent Fox was among the first Washington, DC, law firms to have a specially designated practice group consisting of attorneys and other professionals who focused primarily on working with Congress and the Executive Branch, starting in 1981 (see Government Relations Alumni below). We represent clients before government entities on the federal, state, and local levels and help them achieve their public policy goals.

One of the principal reasons we have been so successful in obtaining favorable outcomes for our clients is that our practice is both bipartisan and bicameral.  The practice includes two former US Senators from different political parties, a former member of the US House of Representatives, a former ambassador, and a former member of the board of directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, as well as lawyers and government relations professionals who have worked for members of both houses of Congress and numerous government agencies. The depth and breadth of our experience allows our group to handle virtually any public policy issue affecting our clients, especially energy, health care, tax, trade, and transportation issues.

Our clients include businesses of all sizes, nonprofit organizations, universities, governmental organizations, and numerous trade and professional associations. We assist our clients by designing and implementing government relations strategies customized to each client’s individual needs and goals.  They may be as straightforward as facilitating a meeting between constituents and their elected representatives or as complex as organizing and managing a coalition utilizing grassroots, media, and social networking to focus public attention on a policy issue.

In addition to our federal, state, and local advocacy, our Political Law group advises a wide range of political, corporate and nonprofit clients on every aspect of state and federal election law, campaign finance regulation, lobbying compliance, communications law, tax, and government ethics.
