Jon Phillips is an associate in the Litigation Department with a focus on business and health care litigation.

Client Work

Jon has represented clients from a broad spectrum of industries, including health care, entertainment, construction, investment banking, automotive, and the wine industry. He has worked on complex consumer and securities class actions, minority shareholder actions, patent and trademark litigation, trust and probate matters, wrongful termination disputes, OSHA investigations, eminent domain, Medicare fraud and abuse, medical staff law, and white collar criminal defense. As a result of this wide-ranging experience, Jon is able to provide clients with aggressive litigation strategies tailored to obtain the industry and case-specific results they need.

Jon’s representative work includes:

  • Represented an international clothing and apparel manufacturer in a class action alleging false advertising in violation of California’s Unfair Competition Law (Business & Professions Code § 17200) and Consumers Legal Remedies Act (Civil Code § 1750), as well as a claim for breach of express warranty.
  • Represented a California automotive dealership in a putative class action involving alleged violations of California’s Rees-Levering Automobile Sales Financing Act (“ASFA”) and California’s Unfair Competition Law.
  • Represented bed and breakfast chain in class action alleging violations of California’s disability rights and physical access regulations.
  • Represented a wine and spirits company against claims of breach of trust, breach of fiduciary duty, and various minority shareholder claims.
  • Represented a Southern California city in a dispute with the general contractor for a large-scale public improvement project.
  • Represented the owners of an orthopedic surgery center in a dispute with the developer hired to construct their $20 million medical building.
  • Represented a major healthcare provider in federal shareholder class action, federal and state derivative actions, and SEC investigation alleging securities fraud and other claims.
  • Represented a California hospital in a dispute with its former CEO who alleged breach of a termination agreement and sought indemnification relating to a federal investigation.
  • Represented a California hospital client in a dispute with a physician involving the intersection of medical staff law and various whistleblower statutes.

Previous Work

Prior to joining Arent Fox, Jon was an associate at the Los Angeles office of a large international law firm. During law school, Jon served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Virginia A. Phillips of the United States District Court, Central District.
