Michael is an attorney with over ten years of experience in advising clients in the areas of protection, transfer and enforcement of intellectual property (IP) in the United States and abroad. He works with entrepreneurs, high-tech startups and multinational technology corporations to identify and protect their IP assets, such as patents, trademarks and copyrights. Having Russian background, Michael extensively counsels Russian companies with respect to protection of their IP in the US.

Michael is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and has a proven track record of obtaining patents for different technologies, such as analog and digital electronics, computer software and hardware, wired and wireless communication networks, computer security, Internet and mobile apps, business methods, medical devices, renewable energy, etc. He prosecuted hundreds of patents and obtained many patents within periods as short as six months using the USPTO's accelerated examination and fast track programs.

Michael also has significant experience in preparing freedom-to-operate, patent invalidity and non-infringement opinions in various technical fields. He also conducts IP and patent portfolio evaluations and due diligence in support of corporate mergers and acquisitions, and counsels clients in various intellectual property assets purchase, sale and licensing transactions.

Computer Software: Antivirus software, data compression algorithms, cryptographic algorithms, arithmetic algorithms for large number processing, operating systems, databases and data mining, vector and bitmap graphics processing, postscript documents, interpolation and white balancing of digital images, medical database management software, multimedia software, and casino security management software;

Reservoir Engineering: Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) oil/gas logging methods and systems, electromagnetic configurations for NMR systems, petrophysical and logging software;
Medical Devices: Poly-axial screws and spinal fixation devices, blood pressure analyzers, blood samples processing and storage systems, and balloon catheters;
Mechanical Systems: Automotive systems (transmissions, engines and steering subsystems), electrostatic air purifiers, mechanical skiing simulators, and pressurized wine decanters;
Nanotechnology: Electro-active polymers and micro-electromechanical systems;
Renewable Energy: Variable speed wind turbines and fluid power generators.

Previous Work

Prior to joining Arent Fox, Michael was an associate in the New York office of a prominent law firm. He also worked as a patent agent while attending law school.
