Ruth has successfully defended employers in numerous wage and hour class and collective actions. All of Ruth’s class action work has thus far resulted in denial of class certification or a favorable settlement for the employer. In 2010, Ruth obtained summary judgment in favor of a public employer following conditional certification of an FLSA collective action. She has also defended single and multi-plaintiff employment discrimination actions based upon age, race, pregnancy, and disability, including group and class actions brought by the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. Ruth has also litigated employment-related breach of contract and unfair competition claims, and has obtained dismissal at the pleading stage of lawsuits alleging wrongful failure to pay bonuses. Ruth regularly advises clients on employment issues, including the interactive process and disability accommodation, leaves of absence, independent contractor classification, workplace investigations and reductions in force, including international workforce reductions. Ruth recently completed a secondment with a major entertainment company where she advised domestic and international divisions on employment issues, supervised employment litigation, responded to state and federal agency charges, and conducted investigations and employee and management training.

Prior to joining Arent Fox, Ruth was an associate in the labor and employment practice of a large international law firm.

Ruth also served as a law clerk for Judge Consuelo B. Marshall, U.S. District Court, Central District of California, and as an extern for Judge Oliver W. Wanger, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California.

Ruth is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Ruth was named an employment litigation “Rising Star” in the Southern California edition of Super Lawyers magazine in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
