Arent Fox Partner Linda Baumann Assumes Office as Chair-Elect of American Bar Association’s Health Law Section

WASHINGTON, DC – AUGUST 4, 2009 – Linda Baumann, a partner in the national health care practice at Arent Fox LLP, has assumed the position of Chair-Elect of the American Bar Association's Health Law Section, a very active and influential ABA section with more than 9000 members.

Linda most recently served as vice chair of the Health Law Section, and was elected to the position of chair-elect during the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago which just concluded. As chair-elect, Linda will help develop and guide the Section's activities and oversee appointments of Health Law Section members to leadership positions within the Section as well as liaison positions with other ABA entities. She will become chair of the Section at the conclusion of the 2010 ABA Annual Meeting.

Linda has served on the Health Law Section’s Governing Council since 2003, first as a Council member and then as Section Secretary and Vice Chair. She has also been a liaison to the ABA's Commission on Women, and has chaired the Breast Cancer Task Force. In addition, she served as co-chair of the Washington Healthcare Summit from 2003-2006, vice chair of the CLE Programs Committee, vice chair of Publications, and as a Health Lawyer editorial board member from 1999-2002.

Linda is the editor-in-chief  of Health Care Fraud and Abuse: Practical Perspectives, Second Edition  – an 867-page treatise released in 2007 that offers seasoned practitioners, as well as those new to health care law and law students, assistance in structuring business arrangements, defending clients in government investigations and prosecutions, implementing effective corporate compliance programs, and more.

In addition to authoring 2 chapters, as editor-in-chief, Baumann shepherded a group of highly experienced health care attorneys to create a work that provides practical guidance and invaluable insight on handling the many complex fraud and abuse laws, regulations and enforcement actions targeting the health care industry nationwide. Health Care Fraud and Abuse: Practical Perspectives is a joint publication of the American Bar Association (ABA) Health Law Section and BNA Books, a Division of The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc.

Linda also is a three-time recipient of the Nightingale's Healthcare News “Outstanding Healthcare Fraud & Compliance Lawyers” award. 

About Linda Baumann: Linda Baumann concentrates her practice on health care regulatory compliance, investigations and transactional matters with particular focus on the challenging issues associated with fraud and abuse and reimbursement. She has handled government investigations (from initial audit through successful negotiation and settlement), implemented corporate compliance programs, served as outside regulatory counsel, conducted due diligence in connection with acquisitions and financing and helped clients structure transactions to promote business objectives while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
