When the closely watched Influence 50 revealed DC law firms had attained a first in breaking the $100-million threshold for lobby billings, Arent Fox was cited for achieving the biggest percentage jump in 2011. A recent article in The National Law Journal underscored the firm’s visibility and influence on Capitol Hill.

Arent Fox Partner Craig Engle, founder of the firm’s Political Law group within the Government Relations practice, was named and pictured in the article, which credited Arent Fox with the ranking’s greatest 2011 increase in lobby-related revenue. With a percentage growth of 58, the firm leapt from number 41 in 2010 to 23 on the Influence 50 scale of top-performing law firms tasked with advocating clients’ causes in Washington, DC.

Engle told NLJ’s Andrew Ramonas that Arent Fox owes the black ink in lobbying revenue to top-caliber counsel. The firm’s seasoned team of congressional veterans includes former senators Robert Bennett (R-Utah) and Byron Dorgan (D-ND), and former Representative Philip English (R-PA). Other factors Engle noted include an uptick in election and congressional investigative work, and deeply invested clients such as the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Watson Pharmaceuticals, and Americans Standing for Simplification of the Estate Tax.
