Arent Fox senior government relations director Amy Demske was quoted by InsideHealthPolicy.com discussing the impact the US Supreme Court’s health care decision could have on Medicaid expansion.

InsideHealthPolicy.com reported the “Supreme Court threw a wrench into the Medicaid expansion by effectively giving states an option to opt-out” and stated “hospitals in particular are weighing whether to advocate for states to proceed with the Affordable Care Act’s previously mandated Medicaid expansion or to instead push for those individuals to be added to the exchange pool.”

Ms. Demske told the publication that hospitals facing DSH cuts will pressure state legislators to take up Medicaid expansion. Ms. Demske further suggested that federal subsidies aimed at purchasing insurance on the exchange would not be sufficient to cover the cost of private insurance for many low income people.
