Prior to joining Arent Fox, Ali was a primary patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He examined patent applications in optoelectronics, smart cards, and systems related to commerce.

Ali is an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

Ali is a Maryland Terrapins basketball fan. He is also an avid hiker and is fluent in Farsi.
