Brett Kappel Comments on Susan Rice’s Investments in Companies with Ties to Iran
Brett Kappel, counsel in Arent Fox’s Government Relations Practice, was quoted by The Washington Post in an article about moderate investments held by Susan Rice in companies that have recently done business with Iran. The article prompted new questions from critics of the potential Secretary of State nominee. The Post reported that the investments of Ms. Rise, US Ambassador to the United Nations, and her husband, are with “global conglomerates. At least some of them have stopped doing business with Iran in order to comply with international sanctions.” Mr. Kappel commented that he didn’t see anything in the dealings that “violates the Ethics in Government Act.” But Mr. Kappel added that he “generally advise individuals who have to file these reports that they should consider either establishing a blind trust or transferring all assets into mutual funds.” To read the Washington Post article in its entirety, please click here. |
