Asra focuses her practice on commercial litigation in federal and state courts, and frequently litigates in arbitral forums.
In the autumn of 2010, Asra worked at the Legal Aid Society on pro bono matters involving immigration law. In that capacity, she assisted survivors of domestic violence to secure permanent immigration status through applications for a Violence Against Women Act immigrant visa or U-Visa.
In the summer of 2008, Asra was an intern at Article 19, a London-based human rights NGO committed to the defense and promotion of freedom of expression and freedom of information worldwide.
While in law school, Asra was an associate editor of the Journal of International Law.
Before beginning her legal career, Asra was a journalist for the Austin, Texas National Public Radio affiliate KUT 90.5 FM. She reported on local and state news until joining the station’s Texas Music Matters department, where she produced feature stories and co-produced documentaries and a weekly show dedicated to Texas music.
Asra is a member of the New York City Bar Association and the Muslim Bar Association of New York. She also serves on the Sadie Nash Leadership Project’s Leadership Council.
