A true Arent Fox “lifer,” David joined the firm in 1956 following graduation from law school. He served for 20 years as chairman of Arent Fox’s Executive Committee.

Client Work

With regard to real estate acquisitions and sales, David has performed work for office buildings, shopping centers, industrial properties, multifamily and single-family developments, as well as hotels. He has represented both landlords and tenants on a variety of leasing matters and has extensive experience in all types of finance. David also performs client work in the areas of federal income tax as well as gift and estate tax. Additionally, he is experienced in federal securities law work and general corporate work. Among his significant corporate transactions, David guided Clark Construction Group in converting from a C corporation to an LLC. Finally, in his sports law practice, David has represented teams such as the Wizards, the Capitals and the Mystics as well as sports arenas on a myriad of issues including player contracts, executive employment contracts, media contracts (broadcast, television, cable and radio), and advertising and promotional contracts.

Professional Activities

David is an active member of the District of Columbia Bar Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association.

Publications, Presentations & Recognitions

In December 2004, the Legal Times recognized David as the leading real estate attorney in the District of Columbia. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, Chambers USA selected David as a leading real estate lawyer in Washington, DC. In 2011, Legal 500 recognized David as a leading real estate attorney. David has also been listed in the 2014 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Life Beyond the Law

David serves as a director of EastGroup Properties and VSE Corporation. He also serves as an executor of several large estates and as a trustee of numerous family trusts.
