Client Work

Matt represents clients in a wide array of commercial real estate and corporate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, financing, development, and joint ventures. He counsels REITs, lenders, borrowers, investors, and other owners and operators in commercial real estate transactions. His experience includes office buildings, hotels, shopping centers, multifamily housing, senior living facilities, and student housing, and ranges from local single-asset to national portfolio transactions.

Examples of Matt’s practice include:

  • Representing a publicly traded hospitality REIT in connection with the sale of 18 hotels in an approximately $170 million multi-state transaction.
  • Representing the owner of a Washington, DC Central Business District office building in connection with the lease-up of approximately 137,000 square feet.
  • Representing the money partner of a joint venture in connection with the acquisition of senior living facilities across the United States.
  • Representing the senior lender in the origination of a loan secured by a portfolio of multifamily properties in Brooklyn, New York.

Matt maintains a robust pro bono practice that includes work with the Legal Aid Society, Landlord Tenant Resource Center, and Legal Counsel for the Elderly.

Previous Work

Prior to pursuing his law degree, Matt was a Consultant at Navigant, an international consulting firm, where he helped prepare financial analyses for expert reports and assisted with internal investigations for corporate clients.

While in law school, Matt served as a legal honors intern at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in the Division of Enforcement, where he investigated potential violations of the federal securities law. He also served as a law clerk at the White House Office of Management and Budget in the Office of General Counsel, where he teamed with Assistant General Counsels on matters involving statutory analysis, legislative proposals, and appropriations law. 

He was previously a summer associate at Arent Fox.

Life Beyond the Law

Matt enjoys playing tennis, trying new restaurants around Washington, DC, and traveling. He is also an avid basketball and football fan, supporting the Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins.
