Eric Biderman Talks with The Deal About The First Phase of New Cybersecurity Rules
New York attorney Eric Biderman was recently mentioned in an article by The Deal that discusses the implementation of new cybersecurity rules promulgated by the New York Department of Financial Services.
The first phase of the rules took effect August 28, 2017. By February 15, 2018 an entity subject to the rules must provide DFS with a compliance certification stating that the entity has been following the rules during the previous calendar year. With respect to that February 15th deadline, Mr. Biderman commented that “[n]ot until February 15 will we understand the effect [of the rules]." Mr. Biderman also stated that, “The Department of Financial Services will get data back [on February 15th]. That's when they'll consider what to do about companies not in compliance."
