Former Senator Byron Dorgan pens tax reform article for The Hill

Senator Dorgan (D-ND), now an Arent Fox Senior Policy Advisor, is a former member of the House Ways and Means committee. He recently wrote an op-ed for The Hill about how in his experience tax reform comes to fruition.

Senator Dorgan gives details on how the last meaningful tax reform took place under President Ronald Reagan in 1986. He lays out two things that must happen. The first is a “truly bipartisan effort on the House Ways and Means Committee,” of which the Senator was a member in 1986. The second is to avoid provisions like the “border adjustment tax,” which in Senator Dorgan’s view is the type of major controversy that can kill tax reform efforts.
