Arent Fox Earns Perfect Score in 2009 Corporate Equality Index
WASHINGTON, DC – SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 – Arent Fox LLP is proud to announce that it has earned the top rating of 100 percent in the 2009 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Arent Fox joins the ranks of 259 other major US businesses which get top marks for their treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employees and consumers.
Arent Fox is one of only 64 law firms in the United States to achieve a perfect score in the 2009 CEI.
“Arent Fox’s commitment to diversity is one of our greatest strengths,” said Marc Fleischaker, chairman of the Washington, DC-based law firm. “As part of our larger diversity efforts, Arent Fox has established firmwide policies to ensure that an inclusive environment exists for its lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender members. We are extraordinarily pleased that our continuous efforts have resulted in a perfect 100 percent Corporate Equality Index rating from the Human Rights Campaign.”
Fleischaker said he is also proud of the legal profession as a whole for the great strides it has made in recent years to create fair and inclusive workplaces for LGBT employees. In 2006, the first year law firms were invited to participate in the CEI, 13 achieved a score of 100 percent. That figure has leapt to 64 in the latest edition, eclipsing banking and financial services firms.
The CEI rated 583 businesses in total, evaluating LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination policies, transgender health benefits and domestic partner benefits. Arent Fox’s efforts in ensuring LGBT equality in each of the survey’s main criterion earned it the prestigious 100 percent ranking.
