Arent Fox Partner Craig Gelfound Named Among Top 25 IP Attorneys in California by Daily Journal
LOS ANGELES – The Daily Journal has named Craig Gelfound, head of Arent Fox’s intellectual property practice in Los Angeles, one of the Top 25 IP Attorneys in California for his outstanding performance as a portfolio manager for major corporations both in the US and globally. Gelfound specializes in patent and trademark prosecution and litigation. He manages thousands of patents and trademarks for numerous companies across broad industry lines that are leaders in their fields and advises them in the creation, protection and exploitation of complex intellectual property portfolios.
Gelfound has served as IP counsel to Qualcomm Inc., the world leader in mobile technologies, for more than a decade. He has handled some of its most important innovations including its newest next-generation technologies – LTE and UWB -- and prosecuted almost 1,000 patents for the company in 2010.
Last year, he was selected by Grass Valley, the world’s premier broadcast and professional solutions supplier, to oversee its entire global intellectual property portfolio. The company is an acknowledged innovator whose intellectual property is at the heart of its operations and vital to its growth and the maintenance of its leadership position in the industry. He also was retained by Seagate in 2010 to manage its new magnetic media technology patent portfolio.
In addition to his extensive experience in patent prosecution, Gelfound is skilled in determining the value of intellectual property for the sale or purchase of portfolios or companies, and in negotiating intellectual property agreements, contracts and licenses.
He is responsible for handling all patent prosecutions for Bridgelux, a leading light-emitting diode (LED) manufacturer in the U.S. that supports global clean energy initiatives. He also advises the company on its intellectual property strategy, licensing and commercial transactions.
Gelfound graduated with a J.D. magna cum laude from Southwestern University, and he has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from San Diego State University. In his early career he worked for a major telecommunications company designing signal processors for military radar applications and subsequently served as project manager for one of the largest air traffic control radar contracts with the United States Air Force.
