California Bans Toxic Chemicals in Cosmetics

On September 30, 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed two pieces of legislation that place dramatic restrictions on companies selling cosmetics and personal care products in California.

Assembly Bill 2762

AB 2762 was introduced by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi. The legislation prohibits 24 ingredients — 13 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (“PFAS”) and 11 other chemicals — from being used in cosmetics in California starting January 1, 2025.
