Complex Litigation Partner Karen Ellis Carr will serve as a panelist for the American Agricultural Law Association’s webinar Science, Law, and the Regulation of Food Disruptors: Lab-Created Protein and Gene Editing on August 9.

The webinar will cover current issues on the regulation and commercialization of plant and animal products of biotechnology, including regulatory proposals for products of gene editing at USDA and FDA and an overview of USDA’s currently proposed rule implementing the new bioengineered food disclosure statute. The webinar will also cover issues related to labeling and other regulations of new plant-based and meat-based protein products on the verge of being market-ready.

Karen will be joined by Dr. Allison Berke of the Good Food Institute, Dr. Clint Nesbitt of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, and attorney Susan Burns of Susan Burns LLC as co-panelists and by moderator Kim Bousquet of Thompson Coburn LLP.

The webinar will offer a preview of a future session Karen and Susan will present on October 27 during the AALA’s 2018 Annual Education Symposium in Portland, Oregon.
