German Company Files Investment Claim Against Morocco

ICSID registered a new investment claim on January 3, 2019 against the Kingdom of Morocco under the Germany-Morocco Bilateral Investment Treaty, which entered into force April 12, 2008. Claimant Scholz Holding is the German-incorporated parent company of Scholz Recycling, a global metal recycling company.

The claim arises from a metal industry project involving Scholz Holding’s Moroccan subsidiary, Scholz Metall Marokko.  Morocco is presently facing two other ICSID claims registered in 2018, both arising from the bankruptcy of the state’s sole oil refinery.
