Brian Ronholm Quoted in Politico’s Morning Agriculture on USDA Reorganization Plan

The September 8, 2017 edition of Politico’s Morning Agriculture provided an updated briefing on the ongoing effort to reorganize the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced additional changes to the USDA offices and programs in order to streamline the department and improve efficiency and customer service. One of the notable changes includes moving the US Codex Office, which deals with aligning international standards, from the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to the trade mission area. Arent Fox senior director of regulatory policy Brian Ronholm questioned the decision to transfer Codex to the trade office. “While moving Codex to the trade office may seem inconsequential on the surface, it actually will undermine the United States’ credibility in the international food policy arena, and represents yet another effort by the Trump administration to emphasize trade goals over food safety priorities,” said Brian.
