Byron Dorgan Talks Jeff Flake Retirement, Taxes on Fox Business Network
In the midst of a tense political climate, Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) announced his retirement today in a poignant speech on the Senate floor, making him the second Republican senator to make such an announcement in recent weeks.
Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) previously indicated that he will not seek re-election next year. Former Senator and current Arent Fox senior policy advisor Byron Dorgan (D-ND) weighed in on Senator Flake’s announcement on Fox Business Network.
Speaking to Liz Claman on Countdown to the Closing Bell, Senator Dorgan gave credit to Senators Flake, Corker, and McCain for speaking truth to power. The show’s host asked the Senator if he thought the three GOP senators would vote against President Trump’s agenda. Senator Dorgan said that the senators would do what they thought was best for the country and not let their personal feelings about the White House get in the way of their duty, including the upcoming tax reform vote.
