Deadline Extended to File Exemption to New York Cybersecurity Rules

New York attorney Eric Biderman was recently mentioned in an article by The Deal that discusses the extension small covered entities will get to file limited exemption notices to meet the new New York Department of Financial Services’ cybersecurity rules.

The deadline for filing these limited exemption notices has been extended to October 30th from the original deadline, August 28th. Mr. Biderman said, “This is far-reaching and something important to DFS and addresses a very important issue.” He added that the DFS recognizes if it’s going to ask entities to develop plans to prevent hacking, it needed to give them a little more time.
