Hunter Carter Talks with Washington Blade About LGBT Rights in Chile

AF International Co-Chair Hunter Carter was quoted in an article published by the Washington Blade in response to a new Chilean bill that would extend marriage and adoption rights to same-sex couples.

The bill, to be introduced later this month, is part of an agreement made during a lawsuit brought on Hunter and a team of Chilean lawyers on behalf of the Movement for Homosexual Integration and Liberation that was settled by an unprecedented binding agreement under international law that marriage equality is required to prevent discrimination and preserve the guarantee of equal protection under the law.

In regards to the bill Hunter said, “We negotiated hard for Chile to move up the date to introduce marriage equality legislation, and we intend to hold Chile to its duty.”
