Long-Running Probe Ends Without Charges Against Former DC Mayor Vincent Gray
The Post reported that “US Attorney Channing D. Phillips put an end to a probe that has cast a long shadow over District politics and led to the prosecution of eight people connected either to Gray’s campaign or to a once-powerful city contractor and political contributor, Jeffrey E. Thompson. The decision to shut down the probe is a stunning turnaround for the U.S. attorney’s office. In March 2014, the office essentially forecast a prosecution of Gray by accusing him of having detailed knowledge of a corrupt, off-the-books campaign fund.”
“It’s hard to see how this doesn’t come across as being deeply unfair to the mayor. If you’ve got the goods, you bring ‘em. If not, you don’t say anything,” Mr. Zeidenberg told the Post.
