Representative Phil English quoted in CQ-Roll Call article on tax reform

On April 14, 2017, former Representative Phil English (R-PA), now a senior government relations advisor at Arent Fox, expressed his opinion about the current political climate surrounding tax reform and the international movement to call for President Trump’s tax returns.

Democrats and activists alike are using the looming tax deadline, traditionally April 15th but April 18th this year due to the weekend follow by a holiday, to highlight their agendas for tax reform as well as to push for the release of Trump’s personal tax returns. Traditionally, Tax Day is a time for conservatives to schedule tax related events.  For example, when Representative English served in Congress, he hosted an event that included cutting through the cumbersome and complicated tax code with a chain saw. In the article, the representative is ultimately optimistic about the GOP’s ability to devise and pass a major tax bill but recognizes that it won’t be an easy road. He says, “If Democrats are making more hay out of Tax Day than Republicans, you know there is not only a messaging shortage, there is a terrible dysfunction in the collation.” To read the article in full, click here.
