Arent Fox Named an Official Trademark Clearinghouse Agent
“We are excited to serve as an agent and to have the opportunity to use our trademark and Internet focus to help clients during this critical time before the new domain names become active,” said Intellectual Property partner James R. Davis, II. “Recording trademarks in the TMCH is a simple and inexpensive process, and should be included as part of a basic online brand protection strategy. The impending launch of more than 1,000 new gTLDs in the coming months and years creates the potential for significant cybersquatting and online infringement activity and Arent Fox is ready to assist its clients with recording their marks in the TMCH and devising an overall brand protection strategy that suits each client.”
By recording their marks in the TMCH, brand owners will be eligible to participate in sunrise periods to register relevant domain names before they become available to the general public. Companies that record their trademarks in the TMCH also will be alerted when third parties register conflicting domain names.
In February, Arent Fox’s Intellectual Property practice was recognized for the third consecutive year as a leading trademark group in Washington, DC by World Trademark Review.
Arent Fox features one of the most highly regarded Trademark practices in the country, providing clients with a full range of services, including: assisting in developing brand selection strategies; analyzing and assessing brand adoption risks; developing broad scopes of protection for new brands; assisting in maintaining consistent trademark usage; and expanding and protecting existing brands to prevent competitors and third parties from using confusingly similar brands.
