Partner Bernice Leber Named One of Crain’s ‘2020 Notable Women in Law’
The 2020 List of Notable Women in Law “celebrates an exceptional pool of talented female attorneys in the New York City metro area” and pays tribute to the dedication, talent, and determination of these women. “In a world full of injustices, they are fierce in their commitment to public service and pro bono causes,” said Crain’s.
In its feature of Bernice, the publication highlights her work as the “American Bar Association representative to the United Nations, [where she led] ABA observers in two UN programs addressing diversionary courts and emergency medical relief to victims of sexual and gender-based violence.” Crain’s also draws special attention to the 2017 report, “If Not Now, When?,” an empirical study of women trial lawyers in New York co-authored by Bernice and published by the New York State Bar Association. The report “reviewed federal and state court data on women trial attorneys [and] resulted in many federal and state judges adopting formal policies to encourage traditionally underrepresented lawyers to take on speaking roles in the court.” Bernice and her co-authors will soon publish a second rendition of this report later this year.
Bernice’s practice concentrates on the prosecution and defense of complex civil business disputes, with an emphasis on those involving commercial disputes, including real property, securities, financial and intellectual property. She also handles professional liability cases, ethics and disciplinary matters involving lawyers, law firms, and accountants. Bernice served as New York State Bar President from 2008-2009.
