Prolonged Outage Sparks Concern About USPTO’s Aging Tech

On August 28, New York Partner and Chairperson of the USPTO’s Patent Public Advisory Committee, Marylee Jenkins, was quoted in Law360 regarding the week-long outage of the USPTO’s online patent filing system earlier in the month.

The outage resulted in attorneys heading to the US Post Office to mail responses and applications as well faxing and delivering their filings to the USPTO in person.

Marylee said, “as the IT systems continue to get more and more of a load on them, we need to have confidence that the system can handle that load. At the end of the day, the office needs to make sure the IT system functions and functions 24/7.”
