Arent Fox LLP's Real Estate Practice in Washington, DC Earns Top Ranking in 2009 Chambers USA

    June 17, 2009

WASHINGTON, DC — JUNE 17, 2009 — Arent Fox LLP is pleased to announce that its Washington, DC real estate practice has once again been honored with a Tier 1 ranking in the 2009 edition of Chambers USA, one of the premier directories in the legal profession. This marks the fifth consecutive year Arent Fox's Washington, DC, real estate practice has earned a Tier 1 ranking from the prestigious legal guide. A number of attorneys in the firm's real estate team were singled out for individual recognition as well.

“The firm represents a considerable number of local developers and also advises international [corporations], owners, investors and financial institutions,” writes Chambers USA. Noting the growth of Arent Fox's real estate practice last year, Chambers USA reports, "Despite already having one of the largest real estate teams in DC, Arent Fox has expanded even further by recruiting urban development experts Debra Yogodzinski, Ed Rogers and ElChino Martin from Nixon Peabody.”

Chambers USA describes Arent Fox partner Mark Katz as "well-known for his representation of private equity funds and investment banks” on matters involving the acquisition, development and disposition of assets in the USA and the Caribbean. “Commentators praise his ability to remain 'in complete control of the transactions and all the business details and to present realistic solutions to clients,'" writes Chambers.

Partner Michael Leahy “is often called upon by clients to structure complex joint ventures" and “handle financing issues, development and the tax aspects of real estate transactions." Richard Newman, who “specializes in municipal finance and low-income housing finance," is “highly experienced representing nonprofit organizations and advises numerous cultural institutions, public policy groups and quasi-governmental entities on real estate matters."

This year's Tier 1 in Chambers USA is just the latest honor for the attorneys in Arent Fox's Washington, DC, real estate practice. Earlier this year, counsel Joseph Fries was named “The Washington, DC Real Estate Lawyer of the Year” for 2009 by Best Lawyers, one of the oldest peer-review publications in the legal profession. In 2008, partner Kimberly Wachen was voted the leading real estate attorney in Washington, DC, by the readers of Legal Times after the publication's editors had earlier named her one of the DC area's “Top 10 Real Estate Attorneys."

Published annually by London-based Chambers and Partners, Chambers USA is widely recognized for its objective, interview-based research and ranking system of attorneys and practice areas.
