Attention Maryland Employers: Are You Ready For October 1?

As we previously reported, Maryland has passed several employment laws that go into effect on October 1, 2020.

In summary, the laws include a new mandatory mini-WARN Act, a ban on requesting an applicant’s salary history, a requirement that employers — on request — provide applicants the wage range for the position for which they applied, a prohibition against discriminating against applicants and employees on the basis of hair texture and hair styles, and a prohibition against using facial recognition technology in the job interview process.

If they have not already done so, Maryland employers should promptly update their policies, application forms, and procedures to comply with these new laws.
